Introducing Pet Photography at Davidson Photography
I’ve been around animals for as long as I can remember. Growing up we had rabbits, I’ve always been around dogs, and more recently I’ve become a very happy cat owner too.
Photography has been a hobby of mine for years, and animals have always found their way in front of my camera. I’ve photographed my own pets, friends’ pets and plenty of wildlife, so offering pet photography through Davidson Photography felt like a natural step.
One of the things I enjoy most about photographing animals is their unpredictability. Of course, it’s nice to get the photograph where they’re looking perfectly at the camera, but sometimes it’s the moments in between that I like the most. The funny expression, something completely unexpected, or a little interaction between a pet and their owner that would otherwise be missed.
There’s also something particularly special about having good photographs of our pets. Sadly, they aren’t with us forever, and photographs give us something to look back on and memories that can be cherished for years to come.
Keeping things relaxed
I want my pet photography sessions to feel easy going rather than like a formal photoshoot.
If we’re meeting at a park, for example, I’d much rather it feel like you’re simply taking your dog for a normal walk and I happen to be there with my camera. I can capture the natural moments and interactions as they happen, alongside a few more posed photographs where possible.
And it certainly isn’t limited to dogs. I’m happy to photograph cats, horses, rabbits, birds and just about any other pet where it’s practical to do so.
Something that has surprised me recently is just how busy local dog groomers can be. It’s great to see how much people care about their pets, and I’m hoping to work alongside more local pet businesses as I continue developing this side of Davidson Photography.
